What's your vote worth? Ban the Electoral College!  Small state's voters votes count more! Let the majority rule!

George W. Bush refridgerator magnet - CLICK TO BUY - Great appetite supressor! Because of the electoral college bonus of two extra electoral college votes per state, voters in small states actually have more say in electing a president. Wyoming had the lowest votes per elector, so those 147,947 people are the only ones who actually got one vote per person. Everyone who doesn't live in Dick Cheney's home state can check the table below to see what percentage of a vote you actually got. Massachusetts voters, I'm sorry that your vote barely counts as one third of Wyoming's.

We need to eliminate the electoral college now. But we won't unless the courts get involved, because small state voters know the only chance they have of electing right-wing nuts is with the college. And those states won't give up their extra votes, which they would have to do to make an amendment. However, if someone were to sue based on their 14th amendment rights to due process, a court might actually rule that the electoral college is unconstitutional.

This argument doesn't hold water since, as it is now, campaigns ignore any state that is solidly in one camp or another, big or small. Without the college, that is, if presidents were elected by straight majority rules, or even if we dropped the bonus of a vote per Senator, campaigns would need to go anywhere and everywhere there might be a voter who hasn't made up their mind. This would actually be good for everyone, everywhere, no matter if they're in Boston or the Boondocks.

VPE = Vote Per Elector

How could less people give George W Bush more electoral votes? It's simple. Because of the fact that electoral votes are based on number of Representatives AND Senators, little states get that two vote bonus that's diluted in big states.George W. Bush magent Bush refrigerator magent Bush refridgerator magent !!!! CLiCK to BuY !!!

Of course, if you really want your vote to count, you can move to Ohio, where you have to register at least 30 days before the election and intend to move there. Ohio, Florida, Virginia, Iowa, Michigan, Arkansas, New Mexico, and New Hampshire are the tightest races in 2004. So, the state where the margin of victory is slimmest is where your vote really counts the most.

Of course, we could abolish the Electoral College.
